Saint Andrew's is traditional in our approach to life and worship. Holy Scripture provides the primary foundation of our worship, interpreted through the Anglican tradition that dates back to 1549. We express our core values in our worship service, as well as other opportunities for preaching and teaching. Theologically, Saint Andrew’s is closer to the evangelical and sacramental streams of Anglicanism. Some members are open to the charismatic stream of the church, but it is not a main focus for the congregation.
Saint Andrew's follows the liturgy of the Anglican Church in North America and the Book of Common Prayer 2019. We are open to Biblically-grounded charismatic practices, such as healing prayer and the laying on of hands during communion.
Saint Andrew’s music draws on both traditional Anglican Hymnody and the rich musical heritage of the American South. Our hymnals, The Hymnal 1982 and The Rejoice Hymnal reflect this convergence. We have several organists on rotation, who lead us in singing. We sing service music, including the Psalms.
Saint Andrew's welcomes visitors and newcomers. We are happy to minister to their needs and to offer opportunities for newcomers to serve the Lord through the many ministries and activities of the church.
Saint Andrew's is shifting our focus from inward to outward by hosting events in the community. Our outreach ministries function throughout the year to meet needs that arise in our congregation or community. In 2024 we hosted Stations of the Cross on Good Friday at a local park, as well as a community wide hymn sing in conjunction with our 125th anniversary. Saint Andrews, working alongside Anglican Relief and Development, was the first congregation in Douglas to offer disaster relief items following Hurricane Helene. We seek additional opportunities for 2025.
In the coming years, Saint Andrew’s intends to develop programs that reach our community with the love of God. These emphasize both strong discipleship and active evangelism.
